Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 17, 2026
This policy explains what data Forecost ("we", "us") collects when you use forecost.app, why we collect it, and how you can control or delete it. We try to collect as little as possible.
What we collect
- Project descriptions & estimates. The text you type when describing a project, your answers to follow-up questions, and the resulting cost estimate are stored so you can come back to them later.
- Anonymous session identifier. If you use Forecost without creating an account, we set a random, non-identifying cookie (
fc_anon_session) so your estimates stay associated with your browser. It contains no personal information. - Account information. If you sign up, we store your email address and the estimates linked to your account via our authentication provider (Supabase).
- Payment information. If you purchase a PDF report, payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details — we only receive confirmation that a payment succeeded.
- Usage analytics. We use Vercel Analytics, a privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics service, to understand aggregate traffic (e.g. which pages are visited). Vercel identifies visitors with a short-lived request hash rather than cookies, and does not track you across different days or other sites.
Cookies & local storage
We do not use advertising cookies or cookie-based analytics. Forecost only uses storage that supports core product behavior: authentication/session cookies from Supabase, the anonymous estimate cookie described above, your saved theme preference, and a small cached header state so the signed-in menu can render without a flash. These are not used to follow you across other websites.
How AI processing works
When you describe your project or answer follow-up questions, that text is sent to a third-party AI model provider (via OpenRouter) so it can be analyzed into structured project data — scope, modules, complexity, and risks. This is the only purpose of that request. The resulting cost numbers themselves are produced afterwards by our own deterministic formula, not by the AI.
Avoid pasting confidential information (API keys, customer data, trade secrets) into the project description field — treat it the same way you would a message to any third-party AI tool.
Sharing estimates
Estimates are private by default. If you turn on the Public link toggle on an estimate, anyone with that link can view a read-only copy of the project name, description, and cost breakdown. You can turn sharing off at any time, which immediately makes the link inaccessible to new visitors.
Data retention & deletion
Estimates are kept so you can revisit them. You can delete any estimate from your dashboard at any time, which permanently removes it from our database. To delete your account entirely or request a full export of your data, email us at contact@forecost.app.
